Broadview, IL – Protest logistics tightened in Chicago’s west suburbs today as officials rolled out new safety steps near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Broadview, aiming to balance First Amendment activity with public safety and access.

According to the Unified Command—Broadview Police, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Cook County Emergency Management and Regional Security, and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency—the Village of Broadview has temporarily closed sidewalks on both sides of 25th Avenue between Fillmore Street and Lexington Street under an executive order issued Sunday, October 12, 2025. The corridor, a four-lane route fed by a nearby interstate with heavy truck and bus traffic, has seen near-misses as some participants attempted to enter or cross the roadway, officials said.

The Unified Command asked demonstrators to respect posted private property and to remain within designated protest and media areas that are “within sight and sound” of the ICE facility. Approximately 2,500 people have gathered over the past three weeks, with about 500 protesting peacefully in the designated areas on Saturday, October 11, 2025, according to officials.

Law enforcement reported 35 arrests to date in connection with protests around the facility. Officers cited common violations under the Illinois Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5/11-1416, 11-1007, 11-203) and the Illinois Criminal Code (720 ILCS 5/25-1, 31-1). Arrested individuals may be transported to the Broadview Police Department (2350 S. 25th Ave.) or Cook County Jail (2700 S. California Ave., Chicago).

Officials emphasized de-escalation, noting officers will give clear instructions and multiple opportunities to comply before making arrests. For facility or detainee access questions, officers said they relay requests directly to ICE communications to avoid misunderstandings.
