Cook County, IL –
A Ford Heights man is facing felony charges after allegedly fleeing from sheriff’s investigators during a traffic stop and being found with a stolen firearm, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said the incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Nov. 2 when Organized Crime Division investigators spotted a tan Ford that allegedly disregarded a stop sign near Kennedy and Diplomat lanes in Ford Heights. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the driver initially slowed down before speeding away and eventually stopping again.
Investigators say a male passenger then exited the vehicle and ran into a nearby field while appearing to hold his waistband. Officers chased and detained the man, identified as 28-year-old Trevon Walker. While retracing his path, deputies reportedly located a loaded firearm, later discovered to have been stolen from Georgia.
After being read his rights, Walker allegedly admitted the gun was his. Police noted he did not have a FOID card or a concealed carry license. He was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
Walker appeared in court on Nov. 3 at the Markham Courthouse and was ordered held in the Cook County Jail. Authorities reminded the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
