Cook County, IL – A 60-year-old man wanted in Wisconsin for first-degree child sexual assault has been arrested in Blue Island following a multi-agency investigation led by the Cook County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, investigators were notified on October 3 that Michael Blackwell—wanted out of Milwaukee—may have fled to the Chicago area. Officers gathered information that Blackwell was possibly residing on the 6200 block of South Fairfield Avenue in Chicago and frequently used Metra trains to travel between Blue Island and Evergreen Park.

On October 10, task force officers established surveillance at the suspected address but did not locate the suspect. They later canvassed the area near the Blue Island Metra station, where they spotted a man matching Blackwell’s description in a park along the 12300 block of Western Avenue. Deputies confirmed the man’s identity and took him into custody without incident.

In addition to the Wisconsin warrant, authorities said Blackwell also had a Cook County warrant for failure to appear on an obstructing identification case. He is currently being held at the Cook County Jail pending extradition to Wisconsin.

Officials reminded the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
