Cook County, IL – A Skokie woman has been charged with weapons violations after deputies reportedly found two rifles and a loaded magazine during a late-night traffic stop in Maine Township, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 9:20 p.m. on Oct. 27, sheriff’s police pulled over a silver Toyota SUV near the 9200 block of West Golf Road for expired registration. Authorities said the driver, 46-year-old Mary Zeia, had active Cook County warrants for driving on a suspended registration and license.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Zeia refused to exit the vehicle but was eventually handcuffed and escorted out by officers. While preparing to tow the SUV, deputies reportedly found two rifles and a loaded magazine inside. Officials noted that Zeia did not possess a valid FOID or concealed carry license.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a charge of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. Zeia was ordered released following her court appearance on Oct. 28 at the Skokie Courthouse.
Authorities remind the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
