Cook County, IL – A South Side traffic stop led to the arrest of an 18-year-old man allegedly found with a loaded, fully automatic ghost gun near Chicago’s South Loop, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on Sept. 30 when deputies pulled over a Ford Fusion for a vehicle code violation in the 1700 block of South State Street. Officers reportedly smelled cannabis and saw evidence of hand-rolled cigars before asking the driver, identified as Markise Bullocks, to exit the vehicle.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a search of the car revealed a firearm without a serial number that had been modified with an extended magazine, a switch converting it to an automatic weapon, and a laser sight. Officers also allegedly found cannabis.
Authorities said Bullocks did not have a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card or a Concealed Carry License. He was taken into custody and later charged by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office with unlawful possession of a machine gun, a Class X felony, as well as misdemeanor counts of ammunition possession without a FOID card and unlawful possession of cannabis.
Bullocks, who lives in the 5600 block of South Calumet Avenue, was ordered into the Chief Judge’s Pretrial Services electronic monitoring program following his court appearance.
Officials reminded the public that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
