Cook County, IL – A 37-year-old Chicago man already facing federal charges was arrested earlier this month after Cook County Sheriff’s Police allegedly found a loaded firearm with defaced serial numbers during a traffic stop.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the stop happened around 8:20 p.m. on Oct. 2 in the 9200 block of South Wallace Street after a Hyundai Tucson allegedly disregarded a stop sign. Investigators say the driver, Maurice Frison, gave verbal consent for a vehicle search, during which deputies recovered the weapon.

Authorities said Frison did not have a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card or a Concealed Carry License. He is currently a defendant in a separate federal case involving bank robbery and conspiracy to defraud the United States.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a felony charge of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Frison was ordered detained at Cook County Jail following a court appearance on Oct. 3 at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
