Ford Heights, IL – A 30-year-old man from Ford Heights has been charged after allegedly being found with a stolen firearm and open alcoholic beverages, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say around 5 p.m. on Oct. 30, Sheriff’s Police Organized Crime Division investigators saw a man crossing near Woodland Avenue and 13th Place in Ford Heights while drinking from a bottle of Hennessy and a canned vodka cocktail. When deputies approached, the man allegedly ran, dropping both beverages before being taken into custody after a short chase near East 13th Street.

According to investigators, the man—identified as Kyri Johnson—was found with a loaded firearm reported stolen from Bargersville, Indiana. Police say Johnson is a convicted felon and currently faces a felony weapons charge approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Officials added that Johnson also has an active criminal drug case. He appeared for his initial hearing Oct. 31 at the Markham Courthouse and was ordered held at the Cook County Jail.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office reminded the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
