Cook County, IL – A contract employee at Cook County Jail has been charged after investigators allegedly found her with THC-laced gummies while working in the jail kitchen this week.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, investigators learned that 36-year-old Ashley McCall may have been bringing cannabis gummies into the facility. On September 4, investigators escorted McCall from the jail kitchen, where they allegedly discovered several gummies in her purse. Field testing indicated the items contained THC, which is prohibited inside the jail.

Authorities reported that McCall, who resides on the 6200 block of Drexel Avenue in Chicago, was taken into custody and charged with bringing cannabis into a penal institution, a Class 3 felony under Illinois law. Jail administration immediately revoked her access to the facility.

McCall was ordered released from custody on September 5 following an initial court appearance, officials said. The Sheriff’s Office reminded the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
