Crestwood, IL – A Crestwood man has been charged following a September incident that left eight first responders hospitalized after suspected methamphetamine exposure, police announced Tuesday.

According to the Crestwood Police Department, the incident occurred on September 30, 2025, when officers and firefighters responded to a wellness check at an apartment in the 12700 block of South Central Avenue. Inside, they found a man—identified as **John C. Fiacchino—**unresponsive.

Soon after entering the apartment, two police officers and four firefighters reportedly began feeling the effects of chemical exposure. A HAZMAT team was called to decontaminate the scene as a precaution, officials said.

All eight first responders were transported to local hospitals, treated, and later released. Fiacchino was also taken for medical treatment before being released pending further investigation.

Police say that substances collected from the apartment were sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for analysis. On November 18, Fiacchino was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine (Class 1 felony)
  • Possession with intent to deliver psilocybin mushrooms (Class 3 felony)
  • Reckless conduct

Fiacchino appeared in court on Tuesday for a bond hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse. Authorities have not released further information.
