Cook County, IL – Two brothers from Chicago Heights were arrested earlier this week after a home compliance check led to the recovery of multiple loaded firearms, narcotics, and thousands of dollars in cash, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 5:45 a.m. on Jan. 22, Cook County Sheriff’s Police Organized Crime Division Investigators assisted Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) agents with a compliance check at the home of Vetaw Jasper in the 1200 block of Park Avenue in Chicago Heights.

According to investigators, a search of the home uncovered multiple loaded firearms, including one found in Jasper’s bedroom and another in a room belonging to his brother, Deandre Phillips. Agents also located safes containing cannabis, psilocybin mushrooms, ammunition, and cash. Additional narcotics — including suspected morphine, ecstasy, crack cocaine, and powder cocaine — were recovered from a second safe in the dining room.

Jasper, 35, and Phillips, 40, were taken into custody. Police said neither man had a valid FOID card or concealed carry license. Jasper faces a repeat felony firearm charge, while Phillips was charged with multiple felonies including armed violence, manufacture and delivery of narcotics, and possession with intent to deliver.

Both men were transported to the Cook County Jail and appeared in bond court on Jan. 23 at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

The Sheriff’s Office reminded the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
