Cook County, IL – Two Chicago men were arrested last week after allegedly breaking into a freight train and stealing boxes of True Religion hoodies, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened around 5:20 a.m. on Nov. 14, when Union Pacific Railroad’s drone surveillance reportedly spotted two individuals burglarizing a railcar near the 2500 block of West Lexington Avenue. Deputies said the suspects were seen throwing merchandise down an embankment before fleeing the scene.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, drone operators relayed the suspects’ locations to officers, who arrested both men shortly after. Deputies also recovered multiple boxes of hoodies.
Authorities identified the suspects as William Jackson, 31, of the 4900 block of West Lexington Street, and Jose Morales, 36, of the 1500 block of North Avers Avenue. Both men were charged with burglary and trespassing on railroad property, officials said.
The men were released from custody on Nov. 15 following court appearances at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
Officials remind the public that both defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
