Chicago, IL – A potentially dangerous heat wave is set to strike Cook County, starting Monday afternoon and lasting through Tuesday evening. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 105°F on Monday and climb to a scorching 110°F by Tuesday. Residents are urged to take precautions as the extreme heat could pose significant health risks.

According to the National Weather Service, the excessive heat combined with high humidity will create dangerous conditions, particularly for those working outdoors or participating in strenuous activities. The heat index values could make it feel even hotter, further increasing the potential for heat-related illnesses.

In addition to the heat, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has issued an Air Quality Alert for the greater Chicago metropolitan area. The agency declared an Air Pollution Action Day due to elevated ozone levels. Sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory issues, should avoid prolonged outdoor exposure. Residents are encouraged to reduce pollution levels by limiting vehicle use and avoiding unnecessary activities that contribute to air pollution.

Both warnings underscore the need for caution over the next few days as Chicago endures potentially hazardous weather conditions.
