Conway, S.C. – Floodwaters along the Waccamaw River continue to threaten neighborhoods and roads in Horry County, with moderate flooding expected to persist into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the river measured 12.3 feet Wednesday evening, well above the 11-foot flood stage. Levels are projected to ease slightly but remain near 12 feet through Monday, keeping several communities under threat of extended flooding.

Low-lying areas including Lees Landing, Riverfront South, Pitch Landing, and Savannah Bluff are already dealing with worsening conditions. Water is pushing into streets such as Waccamaw Circle, Riverside Drive, Gray Oak Drive, and may soon reach Black Moss Drive and Cypress Flat. Portions of Depot Road, New Road, and Jackson Bluff Road could also flood, making travel dangerous. The Witch Golf Course is also at risk of water coverage.

Emergency officials are urging drivers to avoid flooded roadways and follow the rule: “Turn around, don’t drown.” Residents near the river should prepare for rising waters by moving vehicles and valuables to higher ground.

The flood warning remains in effect until further notice, with the next update expected Thursday afternoon.
