Hartford, Conn. – All of Connecticut is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 p.m. Thursday, with the threat of damaging wind gusts, large hail, and isolated power outages extending from Fairfield to Windham counties.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 484 was issued at 1:30 p.m. EDT and includes every Connecticut county: Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland, and Windham. Thunderstorms are expected to develop and intensify through the afternoon and evening, particularly along the I-84 and I-91 corridors.
Wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to one inch in diameter are possible with stronger cells. Localized flooding could impact low-lying roads, especially in urban areas like Bridgeport and New Haven. Residents are urged to stay indoors if warnings are issued and secure outdoor furniture or loose items. Drivers should use caution during the evening commute.
This is the first widespread severe storm risk for Connecticut this July, and similar conditions could redevelop on Friday. Additional advisories may follow if storms organize into a line or persist overnight.
