HARTFORD, Conn. — A brief stretch of milder winter weather is expected across Connecticut heading into Valentine’s Day weekend, though forecasters say the threat of rain or snow will linger through the period from Feb. 14 through Feb. 20.

High temperatures on Valentine’s Day are forecast to reach the low to mid-30s statewide. Coastal and urban areas such as Bridgeport and New Haven may see highs edge slightly above freezing, while inland locations including Hartford are more likely to remain near the freezing mark.

While a major winter storm is not currently anticipated, a series of weak weather disturbances moving through the Northeast could bring intermittent chances for precipitation. Small temperature variations will determine whether precipitation falls as rain, snow, or a mix, particularly during overnight and early morning hours.

Light snow accumulations remain possible, especially across interior and higher-elevation areas. Even minor snowfall could create slick travel conditions, particularly on untreated roads, bridges and overpasses. Overnight lows dropping into the 20s may allow wet surfaces to refreeze, increasing the risk of icy spots during the morning commute.

Winds are expected to be periodically gusty through the period, which could make conditions feel colder despite slightly milder daytime temperatures. Along the shoreline, occasional stronger gusts may accompany passing systems.

Residents with travel plans or outdoor activities for Valentine’s Day weekend are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely, as the unsettled pattern could lead to rapidly changing conditions across Connecticut through the latter half of February.
