New Haven, Connecticut – Rising water levels could threaten roads and low-lying neighborhoods across southern Connecticut overnight as a surge of rain moves into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Flood Watch begins late tonight and remains in effect through Tuesday morning for all of southern Connecticut. The watch includes Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties, where excessive rainfall may push rivers, creeks, and streams toward flood stage.

Cities including Bridgeport, Stamford, New Haven, Middletown, and New London could see water collecting in poor-drainage areas overnight into Monday morning. Smaller waterways may rise quickly as runoff flows into already saturated channels, increasing the risk of localized flooding.

Urban areas and low-lying roads are particularly vulnerable. Underpasses, small bridges, and streets near creeks could become impassable if water levels climb overnight or during heavier bursts of rain Monday.

Emergency managers urge residents in flood-prone areas to monitor alerts and avoid driving across flooded roadways. Just a few inches of moving water can stall vehicles and sweep them from the road.

The Flood Watch remains active through Tuesday morning as periods of rain continue across southern Connecticut, and additional warnings could be issued if waterways begin approaching flood stage.
