White Plains, New York – Heavy snow and 55 mph wind gusts will turn highways across northern Westchester, Rockland and northern Connecticut into whiteout corridors by late Sunday night, threatening to shut down travel through 6 p.m. Monday. Visibility could drop below a quarter mile as intense snow bands strengthen overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect for Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven, Northern Middlesex and Northern New London counties in Connecticut, along with Rockland and Northern Westchester counties in New York. An additional 16 to 20 inches of snow is expected, with the heaviest snowfall and strongest winds arriving late Sunday night into early Monday.

Major roadways including I-84, I-87, the Merritt Parkway and the Hutchinson River Parkway could become impassable as drifting snow blocks lanes. In higher elevations from Danbury to Torrington and across the Hudson Valley, wind-driven snow will reduce visibility and create significant drifts. The weight of heavy snow combined with strong winds may snap tree limbs and bring down power lines, causing sporadic outages.

The worst conditions will target the Monday morning and evening commutes. Officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel, charge electronic devices and prepare flashlights and blankets in case of power loss. Check local DOT services for updated road conditions.

Snow and wind will gradually ease Monday afternoon, but blowing snow may continue to reduce visibility into the evening. The Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Monday, and additional advisories could follow if the storm strengthens overnight.
