Hartford, Connecticut – Connecticut and Rhode Island are now coming into focus on the northern edge of a developing East Coast winter storm, with a low but meaningful chance of winter weather impacts from Saturday into Sunday. While the highest confidence remains farther south, forecasters say the setup bears watching across southern New England.

According to the National Weather Service, current outlooks indicate up to a 20% probability of at least minor winter weather impacts across much of Connecticut and Rhode Island as a coastal storm strengthens late in the weekend. At this stage, the most likely scenario involves light snow or brief wintry precipitation, though even limited accumulation could affect travel.

Across Connecticut, roadways such as I-84, I-91, I-95, and the Merritt Parkway could develop slick spots late Saturday night or early Sunday if temperatures dip to freezing. In Rhode Island, impacts would likely center on I-95 and secondary roads, particularly during overnight and early morning hours.

State and local officials advise residents with weekend travel plans to remain weather-aware and prepared for changing conditions. Allowing extra travel time, checking road conditions before heading out, and ensuring vehicles are winter-ready are recommended precautions.

The risk level could rise if the storm track shifts farther north. Forecasters expect clearer guidance as the weekend approaches, with additional updates and possible advisories through Sunday, Feb. 1.
