Riverhead, NY – The National Weather Service in New York City has issued a Wind Advisory for parts of Long Island and coastal Connecticut, warning of gusty winds through 9 a.m. EDT Monday.
According to the NWS, south winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, are impacting Northeast and Southeast Suffolk County in New York, along with Southern Middlesex and Southern New London counties in Connecticut.
The strongest winds are expected to continue through the morning commute before tapering off later in the day. The NWS cautions that gusts of this strength could knock down small tree limbs, blow around unsecured outdoor items, and cause isolated power outages, particularly along the shoreline.
Drivers of high-profile vehicles are urged to use extra caution on Route 27, I-95, and coastal roadways, where crosswinds may be strongest.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 9 a.m., with calmer weather returning by midday.
