New York, New York – Heavy snow and 60 mph wind gusts will slam New York City and southern Connecticut by late Sunday night, driving visibility below a quarter mile and threatening to halt travel through 6 p.m. Monday. Snowfall rates will intensify overnight, quickly burying streets across the five boroughs and surrounding suburbs.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect for Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Nassau and Suffolk counties, along with southern Fairfield, New Haven and Middlesex counties in Connecticut. An additional 17 to 24 inches of snow is expected, with the heaviest bands and strongest winds arriving late Sunday night into early Monday.

Major corridors including the Long Island Expressway, I-95, the Hutchinson River Parkway and the Belt Parkway could become impassable as drifting snow blocks lanes. Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road service may face delays as switches ice over. Strong winds combined with heavy, wet snow could snap tree limbs and down power lines, leading to sporadic outages from Stamford to Staten Island.

The most dangerous conditions will hit during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel, charge devices and prepare emergency supplies. Check local DOT services for road closures and transit alerts.

Snow and wind will gradually ease Monday afternoon, but blowing snow may continue reducing visibility into the evening. The Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Monday, and additional advisories could follow if conditions worsen overnight.
