Hartford, CT – Scorching summer heat is set to blanket much of Connecticut this holiday weekend, with heat index values nearing 100° and dangerous humidity building Sunday through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, a heat advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday for Hartford, Tolland, and Windham counties, including cities such as Hartford, Windsor Locks, Willimantic, and Vernon. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s, with dew points driving oppressive heat indices into the upper 90s.

The advisory comes amid an early-July heat wave across the Northeast, with elevated risks for heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Connecticut’s Department of Public Health is advising residents to avoid prolonged time outdoors, use fans or AC, and check on elderly neighbors.

Cooling shelters will open in cities like Hartford and New Britain starting Sunday. First responders are also bracing for an increase in heat-related 911 calls.

This could mark Connecticut’s hottest stretch of the summer, and power usage is expected to surge. Additional alerts may be issued if temperatures persist into Tuesday.
