Compton, CA – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect responsible for the fatal shooting of Rhavan Jermaine Mitchell early Saturday morning.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies from the Compton Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of a gunshot victim around 4:15 a.m. on December 2, 2023, at a residence in the 1300 block of South California Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies found Mitchell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said four family members, including a child, were inside the home at the time of the shooting but were not injured. Surveillance video reviewed by detectives shows a Black male suspect wearing a black hooded sweater and blue jeans waiting for Mitchell to return home before entering the residence and opening fire. The suspect fled in an older-model silver sedan, possibly a Honda or Nissan.

Detectives believe the killing was targeted and not gang-related. Family members described Mitchell as a “kindhearted young man with a bright future” who “had dreams like everyone else.”

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Anonymous tips may be submitted through Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477) or lacrimestoppers.org.
