CHICAGOLAND – Thousands of residents in the Chicagoland area are grappling with power outages as Comed works tirelessly to restore electricity following a series of severe overnight storms. As of 11 am, nearly 10,000 residents are still without power, a significant improvement from the 75,000 reported last night.

Reports of outrage began pouring in around 11 pm on Friday, as the ferocious storms wreaked havoc across the region. Comed reassures affected customers that crews are actively assessing the damage and making efforts to bring back normalcy.

The power outage impact includes the City of Kankakee, where approximately 670 residents are still without power this morning. However, there is a glimmer of hope as Comed managed to restore power to around 1,150 residents overnight.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution when navigating signaled intersections, as some traffic lights are still not working or flashing red in all directions. Safety remains a top priority as recovery efforts continue.

Comed’s efforts to tackle the widespread outages are in full swing, spanning from Winneka to Joliet, Chicago, and Kankakee.  Additional crews were dispatched to Kankakee County, where a large portion of Eastern Kankakee County is still grappling with the aftermath of the storm.

“We know some of you are without power, and we appreciate your patience as crews continue to assess damage and work to restore power,” said Comed spokesperson. The company estimates that 80% of outages should be restored by the afternoon of July 29, with the majority of remaining outages addressed by late Sunday afternoon, July 30. Nevertheless, localized areas with significant damage may take more time to be fully restored.

For real-time updates and to report outages, residents are encouraged to sign up for Outage Alerts by texting ADD OUTAGE to 26633 or visit ComEd.com/Report.
