Columbus, Ohio – Temperatures are dropping to near or below freezing overnight, creating a narrow window for frost and patchy slick spots before the Sunday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, lows will fall to around 30 to 33 degrees across much of central and southern Ohio, including Columbus, Dayton, and Wilmington, with slightly milder readings near 34 to 35 degrees in Cincinnati. The coldest pockets, including Logan and Chillicothe, could briefly touch 30 degrees before sunrise.

The calm and quiet pattern may allow moisture on roadways, bridges, and overpasses along I-70, I-71, and I-75 to refreeze in isolated areas, especially in rural and low-lying spots. While widespread impacts are not expected, drivers should remain alert for brief slick patches early Sunday.

Gardeners and homeowners should take precautions to protect sensitive plants, as frost development is likely in areas that dip to freezing.

Temperatures will rebound quickly after sunrise Sunday, reducing travel concerns by mid-morning, but additional chilly nights remain possible into early next week.
