Columbus, Ohio – Another round of thunderstorms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across central and southern Ohio today, with the greatest threat arriving Monday afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, storms may begin as early as Monday morning, but the most intense activity is expected after 2 p.m. Damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall, and isolated flooding are possible, especially in areas like Columbus, Chillicothe, Dayton, and Athens. Temperatures will climb into the mid- to upper-80s, fueling atmospheric instability across the region.
While most of Ohio is under a “Marginal Risk” (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather, even isolated storms could down trees, cause power outages, or flood low-lying roads. Motorists are urged to avoid driving through water-covered roads and residents should secure outdoor items that could become projectiles in high winds.
Communities including Springfield, Wilmington, and Portsmouth may see brief but intense downpours. With high humidity and temperatures nearing 90°F, heat index values will also pose risks for those working outdoors.
The threat for damaging storms will taper off late Monday night, but additional storm chances are possible midweek. Updates and any new watches will be issued by NWS Wilmington.
