Columbus, Ohio – Southwest wind gusts up to 30 mph Tuesday are impacting travel across central Ohio corridors.

According to the US National Weather Service in Wilmington, winds will increase out of the southwest during the day Tuesday, with sustained speeds around 15 mph and gusts between 20 and 30 mph at times. Peak gusts are expected between late morning and early evening.

The strongest gusts are forecast across central and southwest Ohio, including Columbus, Dayton, and Wilmington. Travel along Interstate 70, Interstate 71, Interstate 75, and U.S. 35 may be affected, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Wind chills are expected to remain in the 20s for much of the day.

Forecasters also note a chance for light snow showers tonight into Wednesday, primarily across central Ohio. According to the National Weather Service, any accumulation is expected to remain under one inch.

No advisories had been issued as of Tuesday morning, but drivers are urged to use caution, especially on open stretches of highway and elevated roadways where gusts can be stronger.

The combination of brisk winds and colder temperatures may also impact students waiting at bus stops and early morning commuters traveling during peak wind periods.

Conditions are expected to gradually ease later Tuesday evening, though colder temperatures will persist into midweek.
