Columbia, S.C. – Residents across central South Carolina will see one more day of sunshine and heat before storm chances return by Thursday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to climb near 91° Wednesday under mostly sunny skies, but conditions turn unsettled heading into the end of the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, showers and thunderstorms are possible after 2 p.m. Thursday, with the strongest activity expected into the evening. While rainfall totals should remain light in most areas, localized downpours could briefly impact drivers on I-20, I-26, and U.S. 1.
Thursday night carries a 40% chance of showers as lows dip to around 73°. Storms will remain possible through Friday and Saturday, with rain chances peaking at 50%. Friday’s high will top out near 85°, cooler than earlier in the week but still humid, adding to the unsettled feel.
Those with outdoor plans should keep an eye on changing conditions and avoid travel during periods of heavy rain. Power outages from isolated storms cannot be ruled out.
Storm chances decrease by late Sunday, with drier air and highs in the mid-80s expected early next week. Additional advisories may be issued if storm coverage increases.
