Columbia, S.C. – Storms will return to central South Carolina Friday, bringing the potential for heavy rain and thunder that could affect weekend plans. The wet pattern is expected to last through at least Sunday night, with daily storm chances keeping roads slick and outdoor events on hold.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday afternoon and evening, with rain chances near 70%. Rain could be heavy at times, producing between a quarter and half an inch in some spots. Thunderstorms remain possible Saturday and Sunday, with precipitation chances as high as 90% overnight Friday and 70% during the day Saturday.

Localized flooding may occur in low-lying areas and along busy roadways such as I-26 and I-20 during downpours. Drivers are urged to slow down and avoid flooded intersections. Residents should also prepare for brief power outages from lightning and gusty winds.

By Monday, rain chances remain elevated at 40–50%, before easing by midweek. Sunshine is expected to return Wednesday, offering a break from the unsettled stretch.
