Columbia, SC – Residents across South Carolina should prepare for above-average temperatures and a chance of afternoon storms today, Saturday, September 20.

According to the US National Weather Service Columbia, morning fog will develop in parts of the Midlands but is expected to dissipate shortly after sunrise. By afternoon, isolated showers and thunderstorms are forecast to move through the region.

High temperatures are projected to reach between 88 and 92 degrees, with overnight lows dipping to the mid-60s. Meteorologists say conditions will feel warmer than usual for mid-September, with added humidity contributing to the risk of storms.

Rain chances vary across the state, with precipitation probabilities ranging from 17% in Chesterfield to as high as 29% in Allendale. Columbia sits at about a 21% chance of rain later today, with localized downpours possible.

Drivers should remain cautious in the morning due to reduced visibility from patchy fog, particularly along rural roads. Later in the day, scattered thunderstorms could briefly impact outdoor events, travel, and late afternoon commutes.

The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor forecasts throughout the day for updates on changing conditions.
