South Carolina – Sunshine is already taking hold across Columbia this afternoon, and temperatures are rising quickly toward a much hotter pattern. The air feels mild now, but that warmth will intensify fast over the next 48 hours.

According to the National Weather Service, highs reach near 85°F today before climbing to 89°F Tuesday and peaking around 92°F by Wednesday. This steady increase marks the beginning of a summer-like stretch across the Midlands.

Columbia, Lexington, and surrounding areas will feel the biggest impact during the afternoon hours. Roads like I-26, I-20, and I-77 may see heat shimmer and increased glare, especially during the late-day commute. Plan ahead and stay hydrated if spending extended time outdoors.

By midweek, the heat becomes more intense. Temperatures hold in the low 90s Wednesday and Thursday, then climb even higher to around 95°F by Friday. This prolonged warmth, combined with mostly sunny skies, will create conditions more typical of early summer than mid-April.

Overnight lows only fall into the upper 50s and 60s, offering limited cooling. Homes without proper ventilation may retain heat, especially after multiple warm days in a row.

The pattern stays dry through the period, with little chance for rain to break the heat. That means several consecutive days of warming pavement, rising indoor temperatures, and increased outdoor stress.

Five Day Forecast for Columbia, South Carolina
Today: High 85°F, mostly sunny
Tuesday: High 89°F, sunny
Wednesday: High 92°F, sunny
Thursday: High 92°F, mostly sunny
Friday: High 95°F, sunny
