Columbia, SC – After a stretch of cold, calm weather, breezy conditions return Wednesday as southwesterly winds increase across central South Carolina, according to the National Weather Service in Columbia.

Wind gusts between 25 and 30 mph are expected throughout the day Wednesday, bringing a noticeable warm-up with high temperatures rising into the upper 50s and low 60s. The stronger winds come as high pressure shifts east, allowing milder air to spread into the region.

While the gusts are not expected to cause damage, drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution on open roads and bridges, particularly during the afternoon hours. Outdoor items such as decorations or trash bins should be secured ahead of time.

Conditions are expected to remain breezy into Wednesday night before calming Thursday.
