Columbia, South Carolina – Rain is expected to move into the Midlands late Saturday, with the potential for a brief rain-to-snow mix early Sunday morning, though significant accumulation remains unlikely, according to the National Weather Service in Columbia.

In a Friday update, forecasters said colder air arriving overnight could allow rain to mix with snow across central South Carolina and the Central Savannah River Area on Sunday morning. However, the probability of receiving more than 1 inch of snow remains below 20 percent, and most locations are expected to see little or no accumulation.

The National Weather Service emphasized that surface temperatures will remain relatively warm, limiting snow impacts. Any snow that does fall would likely be short-lived and confined to grassy or elevated surfaces.

While winter precipitation impacts are expected to be minimal, very cold conditions are forecast to follow. Overnight temperatures early next week could drop sharply, with wind chills potentially falling into the teens Monday through Wednesday mornings.

Residents are advised to monitor forecast updates, especially if travel plans are scheduled for early Sunday. Even light wintry precipitation can create isolated slick spots during the morning hours.

No winter weather advisories or warnings have been issued at this time.
