Columbia, SC – Residents in the Midlands and Central Savannah River Area will see a hot start to the week before a sharp increase in rain chances by late week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Columbia.

Highs are expected to remain in the low to mid-90s through Wednesday, with temperatures peaking at 94 degrees. The heat will ease beginning Thursday, with highs dropping into the mid-80s and reaching the low 80s by Saturday.

According to NWS Columbia, rain chances will be minimal through midweek, with just a 5% chance Tuesday and no precipitation expected Wednesday. Showers and storms begin to build Thursday with a 35% chance of rain, rising to 60% on Friday. The pattern continues into Saturday with a 40% chance of showers.

The wetter weather is expected to bring cooler conditions, offering some relief for those across Richland, Lexington, and Aiken counties, as well as the broader Central Savannah River Area. Travelers and outdoor planners should monitor forecasts closely, as Friday’s storms could bring localized disruptions.

This shift comes after a hot and dry stretch, which NWS meteorologists warn may still elevate fire danger early in the week due to low rainfall.
