Columbia, SC – Fall may have officially started, but summer-like heat and humidity remain across South Carolina this week. Commuters in Columbia should prepare for patchy fog Tuesday morning, September 23, which could impact early travel. Drivers are urged to use caution, especially on I-26 and I-77 during the morning rush.

According to the National Weather Service, fog will lift by midmorning, leaving behind mostly sunny skies and a high near 92 degrees. Calm winds will keep conditions still and sticky. Residents should stay hydrated as the heat index climbs well into the 90s.

By Wednesday, September 24, Columbia stays mostly sunny with highs around 94. Rain chances return Wednesday night, with a 20% chance of showers after 2 a.m. Thursday brings the first stronger chance of fall storms. A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected after 2 p.m., with highs near 93.

The unsettled pattern builds Thursday night into Friday. The National Weather Service reports a 60% chance of storms Thursday night, increasing to 70% Friday, September 26. Rain could disrupt evening plans and create slick road conditions. Highs Friday will hold near 85.

Looking ahead, Saturday offers partial relief. A 30% chance of showers remains, with highs near 85, while Sunday looks drier and sunnier, topping out near 88.

While no cold front brings true fall weather yet, forecasters say an early taste of cooler air could reach the region in October. Until then, heat and humidity linger across the Midlands.
