ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A cold, foggy morning is unfolding across central and northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois, where both a Freeze Warning and Dense Fog Advisory remain in effect through midmorning. The National Weather Service in St. Louis reports subfreezing temperatures near 29°F, along with fog reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less in many rural and river valley locations.

According to forecasters, the Freeze Warning extends until 8 a.m., followed by lingering fog through 9 a.m. Cities affected include Columbia, Jefferson City, Hannibal, Quincy, and St. Charles, where patchy frost and thick fog are creating slick spots on bridges and low-lying roads.

Residents are urged to protect sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing, while drivers should slow down, use headlights, and allow extra travel time until conditions improve. The combination of freezing air and moisture is producing light ice glaze in some areas north of I-70.

By late morning, sunshine will return with temperatures rebounding into the mid-50s. A warming trend continues into early week, bringing mild afternoons before another cool front arrives midweek.
