Columbia, Missouri – Snow will spread into northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois late Monday morning, bringing several hours of slick travel as steady accumulation continues through the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with 2 to 4 inches expected across Boone, Audrain, Pike, Marion, Shelby, and Lewis counties, along with Adams, Brown, and Pike counties in Illinois. The snow will begin light but will thicken during the afternoon as colder air settles in.
Drivers on U.S. 63, U.S. 54, and I-72 near Hannibal and Quincy should expect rapidly deteriorating conditions after midday. Roads in Columbia, Mexico, Bowling Green, and Pittsfield may become snow-covered by late afternoon, with visibility dropping during heavier bursts.
Illinois and Missouri transportation officials urge motorists to slow down, give plows room to operate, and allow extra time for the drive home. Side streets, hills, and bridges will be the first to turn slick as temperatures fall.
Snow will taper gradually tonight, but lingering patches of ice could persist into the early overnight hours. The advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Monday.
