Lodi, WI – A Lodi man was taken into custody early Wednesday following an hours-long standoff with law enforcement in a residential neighborhood, where authorities say he allegedly threatened deputies and refused to surrender.
According to the Columbia County Sheriffโs Office, the incident began Wednesday around 9:48 p.m. on West Harmony Drive when a deputy, already assisting at a medical call, was alerted to a man allegedly yelling and causing a disturbance nearby. When the deputy made contact, the suspect allegedly began yelling and making threats toward law enforcement, prompting additional deputies to respond.
Officials said the situation escalated when the suspect allegedly exited his home armed with a knife and continued making threats. Deputies reportedly attempted to negotiate, but the man allegedly barricaded himself inside. Authorities later determined he had allegedly committed multiple offenses during the encounter.
Due to safety concerns and the presence of weapons, the Columbia County Emergency Response Team was deployed. Over approximately six hours, deputies attempted to de-escalate the situation. During that time, the suspect allegedly threatened to kill officers, brandished knives and an airsoft gunโreportedly firing itโand allegedly shined a laser pointer at deputies. He also allegedly set items on fire and threw them from the residence.
Around 3:33 a.m., the ERT made entry into the home and took the suspect into custody. One deputy sustained a minor foot injury and was treated at the scene, while the suspect was hospitalized for evaluation following exposure to chemical agents.
Authorities identified the suspect as Mark A. Goss, 38, of Lodi. He faces multiple charges, including allegedly threatening legal personnel, resisting arrest, recklessly endangering safety, possession of THC and drug paraphernalia, and allegedly directing a laser at an officer. Officials noted prior contacts with Goss allegedly involved violent behavior.
