Lodi, WI – A driver involved in a serious two-vehicle collision late last month has died from his injuries, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. The crash occurred on October 30 around 12:49 p.m. along Highway 60 near Hillestad Road in the Town of Lodi.

According to the sheriff’s office, dispatchers received multiple reports that both vehicles had ended up in the ditch, with one lying on its side. When first responders arrived, they determined that each driver had been the sole occupant of their vehicle and both were pinned inside. Fire and EMS crews extricated the individuals and transported them to area hospitals.

On November 15, officials were notified that one of the drivers — a 76-year-old man from Illinois — had passed away as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash. His identity has not been released.

Witnesses told deputies that both vehicles had been traveling westbound on Highway 60. One vehicle attempted to pass a line of three to four cars, investigators were told, when it collided with a vehicle ahead that was also westbound and attempting a left turn onto Hillestad Road. The impact forced both vehicles off the roadway.

Authorities described the incident as tragic and extended their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, as well as to the emergency crews who responded. The sheriff’s office thanked multiple assisting agencies, including the Lodi Fire Department, Lodi EMS, Arlington Fire Department, Arlington EMS, Lodi Police Department, Brown’s Towing and the Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office.
