Lake City, FL – A months-long narcotics investigation led to the arrest of a Lake City man Thursday evening after detectives executed a search warrant that uncovered large quantities of illegal drugs, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, detectives with the Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force served a search warrant Thursday night at a residence in the 300 block of SE Polk Lane. The investigation had been ongoing for several months and focused on suspected drug trafficking activity.

Authorities said Caleb Maurice Gaskin, 40, of Lake City, was arrested at the scene and charged with multiple felony drug offenses. Investigators reported recovering more than two pounds of methamphetamine, nearly three ounces of pills, over 13 grams of cocaine, and nearly $2,000 in cash during the search.

Gaskin was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility without incident.

According to deputies, Gaskin has an extensive criminal history, including prior arrests and convictions for similar offenses. He is described as a five-time convicted felon. Investigators allege the drugs were intended for distribution within the community.

Gaskin is facing multiple charges, including trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, manufacture or delivery of narcotics, and use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony, according to Florida statutes listed by authorities.

Sheriff’s officials praised the task force detectives involved, stating the arrest removed what they described as a prolific drug dealer from the area. The investigation involved multiple agencies working together to target narcotics distribution in Columbia County, located north of Gainesville in North Florida.

The case remains under review by prosecutors. All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
