Magnolia, AR – The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a 53-year-old Magnolia man dead Sunday afternoon, November 9, along South Fredrick Road.

According to Arkansas State Police, the incident occurred around 1:40 p.m. when a Magnolia Police Department officer encountered the man during patrol. The suspect reportedly brandished a firearm and allegedly fired at the officer. Police say the officer returned fire, striking the man multiple times.

The suspect was airlifted to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, where he later died from his injuries. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family.

ASP officials confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Division’s Special Agents will compile an investigative report for the Columbia County Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine whether the officer’s use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law.
