Pendleton, OR – A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 a.m. PDT Sunday for portions of north-central Oregon and south-central Washington, including the Lower Columbia Basin and the foothills of the Blue Mountains, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pendleton.

Forecasters report southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, affecting cities such as Pendleton, Hermiston, The Dalles, Yakima, Tri-Cities, and Walla Walla. These strong winds may cause tree limbs to fall and scattered power outages, especially in open areas and along the Columbia River Gorge.

“Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles,” the NWS cautioned late Saturday. Travelers on Interstate 84 and U.S. Highways 12 and 97 are urged to use extra caution overnight as blowing dust and debris may reduce visibility.

The advisory also includes the Yakima Valley and Simcoe Highlands, where gusts will persist through the pre-dawn hours before gradually weakening by sunrise.
