Denver, CO – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and strong winds to Colorado’s mountain regions, making travel hazardous through Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory takes effect from midnight Friday night until midnight Saturday night. Areas above 9,000 feet—including Rabbit Ears Pass, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the Mosquito Range—could see between 6 to 12 inches of snow. Wind gusts up to 60 mph will create blowing snow, reducing visibility and making travel treacherous.
Major routes, including I-70 through Summit County and mountain passes such as Berthoud and Cameron Pass, may experience significant delays. Drivers should use extreme caution and check road conditions at www.cotrip.org or by calling 511.
Residents and travelers should prepare for winter driving conditions, carrying emergency supplies such as blankets, food, and water. Those in high-elevation areas should also be aware of the potential for power outages due to strong winds.
