Grand Junction, CO – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of Colorado, including the Elkhead and Park Mountains and the Flat Tops region, from 5 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations between 6 and 10 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible. Winds could gust up to 35 mph, potentially reducing visibility and causing hazardous travel conditions.

The advisory affects areas such as Columbine, Hahns Peak, Toponas, Buford, and Trappers Lake. Roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, are likely to become slick and dangerous throughout the weekend.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution, reduce speeds, and allow extra time for travel. For the latest road conditions, call 511.

Snowfall is anticipated to begin late Friday and continue steadily through Saturday, tapering off by early Sunday morning. This event follows a pattern of winter storms typical for January in the Colorado Rockies, where elevated terrains can experience heavier snowfall and stronger winds.

Residents in the affected regions should prepare for snow-covered roads and limited visibility. Winter preparedness measures, including emergency supplies and vehicle winterization, are strongly recommended.

Stay updated with the National Weather Service for additional alerts and changes to the advisory.
