Colorado – Cold air pools along the Front Range this morning as quiet streets hide what’s building to the west. Clouds thicken by late day, and winter begins tightening its grip just as weekend holiday travel ramps up across southern Colorado.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, conditions stay dry and relatively mild early, with highs climbing into the upper 50s today and Saturday. That changes Saturday night. Snow showers develop across the higher terrain, then spread toward lower elevations into Sunday as colder air settles in.

Colorado Springs, Fountain, and Monument sit in a key transition zone. Rain may briefly mix in early, but snow becomes more likely Sunday morning. Light accumulations are expected in town, generally up to one inch, with higher totals possible north and west of the city. Even minimal snow can create slick conditions on bridges and overpasses.

Drivers should watch I-25 through the Monument Hill corridor and Highway 24 west toward Woodland Park. Gusty winds may reduce visibility at times, especially near Palmer Divide. Plan extra travel time Sunday and be alert for rapidly changing road conditions.

Sunday afternoon stays cold and unsettled, with snow showers tapering late. As skies partially clear Sunday night, temperatures drop sharply into the teens. Flash freezing becomes a concern as daytime moisture refreezes quickly after sunset. Parking lots and neighborhood roads may turn icy with little warning.

Early next week brings a return to sunshine but continued cold mornings. Highs recover into the 40s by Monday, with gradual warming into midweek. Attention then turns to New Year’s Eve on Wednesday. Another system could bring renewed snow chances, keeping winter travel concerns in play as 2026 begins.
