Denver, CO – Snow continues to fall across the Denver metro area and Front Range foothills this afternoon as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through this evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Denver/Boulder.
The advisory covers a large stretch of the region—from Boulder and Jefferson Counties to Aurora, Denver, Castle Rock, Parker, and the Palmer Divide—where additional accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are expected. Storm totals are on track to reach 3 to 6 inches, with locally heavier 8-inch totals possible near the base of the foothills west of I-25.
Farther west, areas above 6,000 feet—including Evergreen, Idaho Springs, Bailey, and Central City—will see more substantial snowfall. The NWS reports that these foothill zones are likely to reach 6 to 11 inches by early evening. In South Park, including Fairplay and Hartsel, totals of 3 to 8 inches are expected through 8 p.m.
Roads across the region have become slick, and the NWS warns that both the morning and afternoon commutes will see impacts, especially along the Palmer Divide and foothill corridors such as U.S. 285, I-70 west of Golden, and Highway 36 near Boulder.
Travelers should expect slow-moving traffic, reduced visibility, and slippery bridges and overpasses as temperatures hold near freezing. The advisory extends until 6 p.m. for most counties, with South Park under advisory until 8 p.m. as lingering snow bands persist.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and check Colorado’s 511 and cotrip.org for updated road conditions as evening travel ramps up.
