Silverton, CO – A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Southwest and Northwest San Juan Mountains in Colorado, with snow accumulations expected between 2 and 10 inches starting Friday afternoon and continuing through Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, snow is expected to begin in the afternoon on Friday and last until midnight MDT on Saturday for the Southwest San Juan Mountains, including Silverton and Molas Pass. The Northwest San Juan Mountains, including Telluride and Red Mountain Pass, will see snow starting at noon Friday and continuing until noon Saturday.

The snow could cause hazardous travel conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses. Slippery roads are anticipated, which could impact both morning and evening commutes. Travelers are advised to use caution and be prepared for delays and reduced visibility in the mountain areas.

Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions via the 511 service before traveling. With the snowstorm expected to bring significant accumulations, safety remains a priority for anyone heading to or through the San Juan Mountains.
