Grand Junction, CO – A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of western Colorado, predicting significant snowfall starting Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Junction, the advisory will remain in effect from 5 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Sunday. Affected areas include the Elkhead and Park Mountains, Flat Tops, and cities such as Columbine, Hahns Peak, Toponas, Buford, and Trappers Lake. Snowfall totals between 4 and 8 inches are expected.

The NWS warns that roads, bridges, and overpasses in the region will likely become slick and hazardous due to accumulating snow. Drivers are urged to slow down and exercise caution when traveling.

Travelers can stay updated on road conditions by dialing 511, a statewide traffic information line. The advisory comes as Colorado experiences a series of winter storms typical for late January, adding potential travel delays in mountainous regions.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for winter driving conditions by keeping emergency kits in their vehicles and checking forecasts regularly. Snow is expected to taper off early Sunday morning, but icy road conditions may persist into the day.

Stay tuned for further updates as the system progresses.
