Pueblo, CO – A significant winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall across southern Colorado, with up to 14 inches expected in some areas before the storm subsides at 11 a.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for multiple regions, including the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Wet Mountains, Upper Rio Grande Valley, and Eastern Las Animas County. Snowfall totals will vary, with higher elevations experiencing the most accumulation. Winds could gust up to 30 mph, causing blowing and drifting snow, particularly over La Veta Pass, Wolf Creek Pass, and Cumbres Pass.

The heaviest snowfall is expected in the southern Sangre de Cristo Range, where travel conditions could become hazardous. Motorists should prepare for difficult driving, especially in the Walsenburg and Trinidad areas. Officials advise carrying an emergency kit, including a flashlight, food, and water, in case of travel delays.

Authorities urge residents to limit travel if possible and check road conditions by dialing 511. Snow is expected to taper off by late Saturday morning, but residual impacts on roads and highways may persist throughout the weekend.
