Pueblo, CO – A powerful winter storm continues to impact Colorado’s high central mountains tonight, with the National Weather Service warning of heavy, wind-driven snow through late Saturday. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 p.m. MST Saturday for elevations above 11,000 feet across the Western Mosquito Range, East Lake County, and the Eastern Sawatch Mountains, including the communities of Bonanza and Climax.
According to the National Weather Service Pueblo office, an additional 10 to 20 inches of snow is expected as the storm intensifies overnight. Winds could gust up to 55 mph, creating blowing and drifting snow capable of reducing visibility to near zero at times.
Forecasters say travel across high mountain roads and backcountry routes may become very difficult, especially where snow combines with strong winds. Hazardous conditions are likely throughout Saturday as snowfall rates increase during peak storm intensity.
Officials advise anyone traveling in the high country to carry emergency supplies, including water, food, and a flashlight. Snow-packed roads, sudden whiteouts, and drifting snow may cause extended delays or road closures. Drivers can check statewide conditions by calling 511.
Updates will be issued by the National Weather Service as the storm evolves.
