Pueblo, CO – Colorado’s mountain regions are facing severe winter weather as a winter storm warning continues through Saturday evening. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for several high-elevation areas, including the Eastern San Juan Mountains and Sangre de Cristo Mountains, where heavy snow and high winds are expected.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall accumulation could range from 6 to 16 inches in some areas, with gusty winds reaching up to 45 mph. This storm, which started Thursday evening, will affect travel and may cause hazardous conditions for drivers.
The storm is expected to impact the Friday morning and evening commutes, especially in the Eastern San Juan Mountains above 10,000 feet, where up to 16 inches of snow could accumulate. Areas like Cumbres Pass and Wolf Creek Pass are at high risk for difficult travel.
Snowfall will also affect the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountains, with accumulations between 6 and 15 inches expected through Saturday evening. Passes like Poncha and La Veta will see challenging conditions, making travel difficult.
